Xicotepec

Xicotepec is a coffee-growing, ceremonial and historic Magical Town in the Sierra Norte. SECTUR notes that its name comes from the Nahuatl xicotepetl, “hill of bumblebees,” and that it was inhabited by Olmecs, Otomí, Totonacs, Huastecs and Nahuas.

It is also one of Puebla's most important coffee producers. Xicotepec has a very particular mix: coffee, Indigenous ritual, national political memory and viewpoints.

It should not be reduced to a “coffee town,” because the Xochipila Ceremonial Center and the Casa Carranza Museum give it a strong historic and symbolic dimension. Recommended: have coffee under the arcades, visit Xochipila respectfully, climb to the Virgin viewpoint, see the Casa Carranza Museum and its murals.
