Amealco

Amealco de Bonfil is Querétaro's Magical Town of the handmade Otomí doll. Querétaro Tourism notes that Amealco produces more than 200,000 handmade dolls a month, that there are more than 550 workshops in its Indigenous areas and that more than 10,500 people take part in the various stages of production.

Its strength lies in Otomí identity and the rag doll as a local, national and global symbol. Unlike Tequisquiapan or Bernal, Amealco is experienced through the countryside, textiles, Indigenous communities, cool weather, home cooking and craftwork.

Recommended: visit the Doll Museum, buy directly from artisans, tour community workshops, try Otomí food and visit Santiago Mexquititlán if you have time.
