History and Origin

The Night of the Dead around Lake Pátzcuaro is one of the best-known expressions of the Indigenous festivity dedicated to the dead, inscribed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Purépecha families decorate the graves and keep their loved ones company through the night of November 1 to 2.
